1. Start with the practice scenario Welcome to Forest Carbon Lab. This walkthrough uses the English interface and an illustrative project. First, click Export data to back up your current work. Open User guide and download the practice scenario. Then go to Data and costs, select Import saved JSON, and choose the downloaded file. Importing replaces your current inputs and saved scenarios. 2. Set years, area and exchange rates The practice project covers one thousand hectares, from twenty twenty-seven to twenty sixty-one. Year zero is the investment year. An analysis duration of thirty-four creates thirty-five annual rows, including year zero. Enter twenty-five thousand Vietnamese dong per US dollar and thirty thousand dong per euro. Select the correct currency for each cost item. Exchange rates remain fixed throughout the analysis. 3. Apply the Excel inflation rules Check the price base year, annual salary growth and reporting US dollar inflation. Detailed personnel costs use salary growth. Fees, taxes and forest-use-right fees do not inflate. Other costs use reporting US dollar inflation. Vietnamese dong and euro inflation are reference values only. To enter three percent, type three, not zero point zero three. 4. Enter personnel, contractors and supplies In Cost inventory, open Core personnel. Enter headcount and annual salary and benefits per person. Here, two people each receive six thousand dollars per year before salary growth. Open the MRV contractor item to review quantity, unit price and recurrence. Unit labels do not automatically convert months or hectares. Enable Exclude end year for contractors, supplies, travel and activities when matching the Excel VBA formulas. 5. Configure assets and maintenance For assets, enter purchase price, quantity, initial purchase year and useful life. Enable replacement if assets will be purchased again at the end of their useful life. Leave actual maintenance blank to use the percentage method. Entering zero means zero maintenance cost. Fuel quantity is the annual total for the entire asset item, not for each asset. Without replacement, maintenance and fuel stop at the end of useful life. 6. Enter travel, tax and activity costs Travel costs include fares, accommodation, per diem and an additional lump sum. Nights equal days minus one. Set components already covered by a lump sum to zero to avoid double counting. Land tax is entered per hectare per year and multiplied by project area. For a detailed activity, enter costs for one occurrence. The tool multiplies component quantities and prices by the number of occurrences per year. 7. Allocate costs and set credit assumptions Open Activity allocation. Categories A through I must total one hundred percent. To compare with VBA, allocate one hundred percent across A through H, and set I to zero. Next, enter emission reductions per hectare, buffer deduction, leakage and first issuance year. Buffer and leakage are deducted sequentially. Earlier credits are not accumulated. Finally, enter the expected selling price and credit selling fee. 8. Read the financial results Return to Overview. Total undiscounted cost is approximately two point three nine million US dollars. At a selling price of fifteen dollars per credit, net present value is negative, so the assessment is red. The break-even price is about twenty-two dollars and fifty-six cents. The target price is about twenty-five dollars and ninety-five cents. Amber means break-even but below target, or that costs have not been entered. 9. Compare prices and turn the result green Save the original scenario before making changes. In Market references, review the transaction source and date. Historical prices are not offers for your project. Return to Overview and click Apply target price. The assessment turns green under the current assumptions. You can also revise individual cost items. Green indicates financial performance only. It does not certify credit eligibility or guarantee a buyer. 10. Compare scenarios and export results Open Scenarios and sensitivity to compare your plans. The sensitivity table varies prices and costs by twenty percent while holding other assumptions constant. Export JSON to back up your work and import it later. Export cash flow or detailed cost CSV files to review the results. Data stays in this browser on this device; it does not automatically sync. The written guide and practice scenario remain available below this video.
